Choose Your Coverage
This is where you decide whether you want a light coverage, aiming for a sheer finish foundation that leaves you with your skin but better, or a medium coverage that provides an even skin tone, covering imperfections while maintaining a natural finish. Full coverage offers the highest coverage in the complexion category and creates a completely even, long-lasting canvas, covering discolouration, along with common skin conditions like acne, eczema and psoriasis.
Traditionally, lighter formulations matched lighter coverage, leaving full coverage for thick, often drying formulas only. However, Youngblood boasts buildable sheer to full coverage foundations in their signature lightweight, hydrating formulas, allowing you to wear alone or layer depending on your desired finish.
Find Your Formula
Youngblood’s Loose Natural Mineral Foundation is a lightweight mineral powder foundation that can be brushed over the skin for a sheer to full coverage finish that melts into the skin, able to cover everything from birthmarks to tattoos without clogging your pores. Expect a satin finish, suitable for all skin types and concerns, even post operative thanks to the mineral, non-comedogenic formula.
Boasting the hydrating deep-sea mineral water, calendula, green tea, cucumber and cactus flower complex, Youngblood’s Liquid Mineral Foundation leaves skin dewy, bright, more even and luminous, resulting in a sheer to medium coverage for work or play. As is all Youngblood, this liquid foundation is safe for use post op, on inflamed, sensitive skin, dry, oily or blemish-prone alike.
Colour Match Your Foundation
To correctly colour match your foundation to your skin, first you must understand your undertones. Find natural light, and take a good, hard look at your skin – clean, with no makeup. There are three basic undertones that will drive your decision. Are you cool, warm or neutral?
An easy way to look at it is what jewellery looks best on you: silver aligns with cool and gold aligns with warm, while neutral, as expected, can have more flexibility with their foundation (or jewellery). Another way to figure it out is to put a white t-shirt on and see if you look slightly golden, or olive, you’re warm, slightly blue or pink, more often cool, and if you’re not seeing either side as standing out, most likely neutral.
The lipstick test works too – look best in a blue-based, true red? You’re cool. Brighten up when you wear a peach-based lip shade? You’re warm. Worth noting here – your skin tone and undertone and two different things. The biggest difference? Skin tone is on the surface of the skin, undertone, is as it sounds, underneath.
